World Beer Cup 2006 – The Poet lands a silver medal!

New Holland Brewing honored in worldwide beer competition
(April 20, 2006 – HOLLAND, MICHIGAN) New Holland Brewing Company was recently recognized as a silver medalist by the Brewers Association (BA) World Beer Cup® 2006, a global beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced in the world today.

New Holland was awarded the silver in the Oatmeal Stout beer style category for its Poet Stout. The beer is oatmeal stout with rich, smooth malt character enveloped in tones of roast and chocolate.

“We’ve been falling in love with the Poet, and it looks like the judges at the World Beer Cup did, too,” said Fred Bueltmann, vice president at New Holland Brewing Company. “The World Beer Cup is considered to be the most prestigious and credible beer competition in the world, so we are honored by their recognition and praise.”

The competition is the world’s largest and most diverse international beer competition for commercial breweries with 2,221 entries from 540 breweries in 56 countries competing in 85 beer style categories. Winners were selected by an international panel of 109 judges. World Beer Cup 2006 saw a 42 percent growth in entries, 37 percent growth in breweries and 40 percent growth in the number of countries represented from the 2004 competition.

“The World Beer Cup has become the global stage by which brewers world-wide showcase the quality craftsmanship, flavor and diversity of their beers and in so doing highlight their own achievements and the enduring culture of beer,” stated Charlie Papazian, founder of the World Beer Cup and president of the Brewers Association. “The explosion in competition entries only demonstrates the excitement and passion for beer among brewers and the values appreciated by beer drinkers.”

New Holland will celebrate the honor with a hanging of the award and recognition of the brewers at the company’s downtown Holland pub on Wednesday, April 26 at 5:00 pm. Samples of the award winning beer will be available at that time for a celebratory toast. The public is invited to attend. The company will also unveil a new corporate logo at the event.
