Team: Brewery
Role: Brewer
About: Hi!
I just moved to Holland from the Quad Cities(IL/IA) to join the skilled team of individuals who perceive craft beer through an artistic lens (why else would we wear goggles in the brewery!). Beer is my world.
I graduated Augustana College in May of 2011 a degree in Biology/microbiology and a minor in Ethics (and Anthropology, technically) and made it my ultimate goal explore and grow within the craft beer industry. I would never have guessed that a year later I would be here, in Holland, working at New Holland Brewing Co.!
I’m fascinated with yeast and any other type of microbe that can be harnessed to make a probiotic elixir. In fact, While moving I made sure to bring my “pet” Kombucha scoby (Symbiotic Colony of Bacteria and Yeast) as well as a jar of keffir. Both of which I’ve been growing for the past 3 years.
…I’m weird
Anyway, I run a lot.. You’ll probably see me somewhere within a 20 mile radius of the down town.
I also love cooking, anything from Thai to Mexican to Indian or Ethiopian (my favorite). I find beer just as much an art by design as a cook would find his gourmet masterpiece. If it tastes good, eat it.
Sustainability and Environmentalism, and local are a few adjectives I try to follow on a day-to-day basis, but sometimes it is not always possible, but I do my best.
Otherwise, I like farmers markets, bicycling, trails, vegetables, sailing, science, forests, culture, traveling, green tea, mushroom hunting, meeting people at the bar, and reading. Hosting big beer dinners and tastings are another big hobby of mine.
My favorite beer right now at NHBC is Blue Sunday Sour…but that can change with the season
Cheers!
