New Holland is excited and proud to be taking home a Silver Medal at this year’s prestigious Great American Beer Festival! Blue Sunday Sour won a silver medal in the Belgian-Style Lambic or Sour category. This is a festival with hundreds of breweries competing for just three medals in each category. Congratulations, team New Holland!
The Great American Beer Festival, listed as one of the top 1,000 places to visit before you die, is not just about sampling beer from around the world but is also a competition. The GABF was started in 1982 and has been held every year since. Breweries submit their beer to be judged in a specific category by the festival’s professional judge panel. The judge panel’s goal is to identify the three beers from each category that best represent the category as described and adopted by the Great American Beer Festival. The judge panel awards gold, silver or bronze medals that are recognized around the world as symbols of brewing excellence. These awards are the most sought after in the industry and are used by the breweries in their national advertising campaigns.
The competition is intense but the festival also gives brewing enthusiasts the chance to get together and talk beer and brewing…and sample a bit too. Festival attendees pay admission for a day of activities and are given a special sampling glass as well as the opportunity the sample as many one ounce samples as they can drink. There are tasting panels and discussions daily. This event is a brewer’s heaven!
GABF is presented by the Brewers Association, a not-for-profit organization devoted to educating and providing information about brewing and craft beer so that it is available to everyone.
