Just in time for the holidays, is the Naughty and Nice Cinnamon Spice drink at J. Gardella’s Tavern. It’s made from heated house cider, New Holland Artisan Spirits Michigan Amber Rum and garnished with cinnamon and melted butter. “It’s disgustingly good!” said Ellen Lenhart, general manager at J. Gardella’s, who thinks more people are willing to suffer the consequences of a disgustingly good treat around the holidays.
“I think it’s definitely a time when people become more indulgent,” Lenhart said. “They are not as conscientious. They are willing to consume more calories.” That might be a good thing for local breweries such as New Holland Brewing Company, which plans to unveil its Silent Night brew, a strong dark beer, shortly before Christmas.
Bar manager Phil Thompson said Christmas-themed ales have certain characteristics.
”If you’re thinking about something that’s going to be a little more hearty for Christmas or the winter season, we’re talking about malt forward beers — usually things that would give coffee or chocolate tones in the beer.”
