Pilgrim’s Dole is a barleywine-style ale made with fifty percent wheat malt, or what we at New Holland call a wheatwine. Pilgrim’s Dole blends warming and slightly sweet flavors with a unique caramelized character. It would be an excellent accent to nutty dishes, fruit crisps or creme brulee.
During the 14th century, the term “Pilgrim’s Dole” described the rations of bread and ale given to nourish wayfarers on their holy pilgrimage. At New Holland, Pilgrim’s Dole is brewed for the cultural explorer of today. It is a rewarding discovery on the road to enlightenment.
Whether in a snifter or from your rucksack, Pilgrim’s Dole will enhance any experience and is certain to incite wanderlust and to fuel adventure.

I’m having a 22 oz. bottle of this right now. Outstanding!
Cheers, David!
I’m not sure if this is a typo or not, but it gives a “12oz” option in the availability section of this and other NH brews. Is that supposed to be 22oz? I recently bought a bomber of Pilgrim’s Dole and don’t see the 22oz format on the site.
Just trying to help!
Hi Etan!
Good looking out! We did, however, recently change our Pilgrim’s Dole packaging to 12oz bottles available in 4 packs. We shipped the new 12oz Dole November of 2011, so you might start to see this on shelves near you. If you see any 22oz bottles out in the market- I would grab one because this beer ages very nicely, we often have vintages of Pilgrim’s Dole in our library collection, available at our pub in downtown Holland. Thanks for reaching out!!!
Thanks for the reply. I actually opened it tonight…and got through half the bomber. It’s one of these beers that I can definitely appreciate but cannot drink for too long. Calming things down with a Full Circle now
Was Pilgrim’s Dole bottled at all in 2010? I’ve hears that it wasn’t, and am just curious how old the 22oz bombers are.
Pete,
I do not believe any Dole was produced or bottled in 2010. We have vintage 22′s from 2007 through 2009 in our library, likely this would be the timeframe of any remaining 22′s. Hope that helps!
Hi, I haven’t been able to find this delicious brew in the Holland/Zeeland area for some time now. Where can I buy it?
Hi Ron!
Here is a link to our beer and spirits finder:

We recommend calling a retail store first, to confirm they are not out of stock and that they carry the brand you are looking for.
Pilgrim’s Dole is a year round high gravity brand, and should be available downtown Holland at our restaurant and pub located at 66 E. 8th street.
Hope that helps!!
Enjoying a tulip of Pilgrims Dole at HopCat while watching the UofM/MSU game. Now this is what I call gut bier!
Love all your beers!! Had a couple questions on the Pilgrams Dole…. Was that always aged in bourbon barrels or did your 12 oz packaaging just change to indicate that? How long do you age in the bourbon barrels? Heard from a reviewer that it was aged in barrels that a once had Dragons milk, is that true?
Thanks and keep making amazing beer!!!
Hi Jim,
Just got a message back from our head brewer, Jason and his answer goes a little something like this:
“The beer had started out as just being aged in stainless. The story goes…. a long while ago we made Pilgrim’s Dole, but had limited tank space so we decided since we had some used wood barrels lying around that we would age it in the 3rd-use barrels and see how it turned out.
It turned out great, so we continued to use the same method ever since. We do used the same barrels that we use for Dragon’s Milk. The barrels are rinsed in between each use. The barrels were once bourbon barrels but the bourbon flavor should be little, if any, because the previous beer should have taken most of that bourbon flavor.”
I hope that helps with your question. As long as you keep drinking our beer – we’ll keep making the beer!
Cheers!
Emily
