The Poet has a rich, smooth malt character enveloped in tones of roast and chocolate. A soft mouth-feel brings luxurious flavors and soothing aroma. Any time of year, The Poet is as versatile as it is delicious. It pairs wonderfully with earthy flavors such as mushrooms and beef, while remaining the perfect accent to any chocolate dessert.

What’s Happening i am new to this, I stumbled upon this I have found It positively helpful and it has helped me out loads. I am hoping to give a contribution & assist other users like its helped me. Great job.
I like an occasional stout, only having had Guiness. I tried The Poet in Ann Arbor, Michigan and was blown away by how much better than Guiness it is!!! Very, very smooth!
Thank you for the compliments, David!
I’m a 66 yr old lady finally retired, getting out and about a bit, having tried Guinness in Philly after some football games and Bon Jovi Concerts and loving it. However, recently tried The Poet at a little Edgar Allen Poe coffee shop in Petersburg, Va. and absolutely love it. The Poet has a wonderful flavor I can’t describe, but I know I like it enough to pursue it. Can I buy the Poet anywhere in Virginia or order from you directly for consumption at home like Guinness.
I’d appreciate an e-mail. Many thanks.

We are buying a 1/2 barrell of The Poet oatmeal stout and I’m wondering if it requires nitrogen instead of carbon dioxide. Any help is appreciated.
Hi Denise!
The beer is actually carbonated to a certain volume that if you were to put it on nitrogen, it will not pour correctly. A “normal” CO2 setup should be fine. Please email lindey@newhollandbrew.com if you have any further questions! Thanks and have a great day.
Got this on a whim ( and honestly a sale ) while out looking for a nice dark beer to go with dipped beef sandwiches during the Super Bowl. We enjoyed it quite a bit, so I’ll be adding it to my rotation!
Hey Michael! Thanks for the compliments! Sounds like a delicious pairing!
I picked up a growler of The Poet on tap from the evil clown (Spirits Unlimited) in Middletown, NJ and liked it so much I went back for another the next day. Keep the good stuff coming!!
Poetry by the pint…
A few years ago I began my journey into craft beer and it has been a wonderful adventure. My first passion has been Specialty Coffee, I’ve spent years refining my palate and sourcing coffees from around the world. Taste. Its what I love.
Enter New Holland Brewery…
By chance after tasting “what a beer could be” I headed to my local Wine Store and selected random bottles off of their “beer wall” one of which was a 12-ounce bottle of New Holland The Poet. It sat among brews from other high quality, well known USA microbreweries. Many of the other beers I could truly appreciate and enjoy.
But the difference, the one that stole my heart at first sip was the beautiful Poet. The creamy (almost chewy) body carries a delicious marriage of roasted malt notes and hints of rich chocolate. As the glass slightly warms the brew only becomes sweeter with hints of caramel and fruit. The beer is incredibly nuanced and complicated yet something that really struck me was that although it has a lot going on in the flavors, it always remains very elegant and incredibly easy to drink. The Poet brings balance and elegance that I’ve not seen in other Stout style beers.
Tour the Brewery…
Having found The Poet I immediately began to seek out other New Holland Beers. I’ve have not yet been disappointed. New Holland Brewing is a brewery after my own heart. Your approach and appreciation for brewing speaks to my very soul. My wife surprised me one Saturday with a 5-hour drive to tour your brewery and visit the Pub House. We both fell in love with Holland Michigan and I loved the brewery tour and samples (damn the Dragon’s Milk is amazing)!
Fan for Life
Taste is everything to me, be it Specialty Coffee or Craft Beer. New Holland Brewery, and especially The Poet, outshine every other brewery and beer I’ve sampled to date. I’ve had many, many high quality beers, but nothing speaks to me like Art in Fermented Form.
Bravo!
Tim,
Thank you so much for your support! Very well written comment, I must say! I will pass your compliments along to the brewers and the staff that helps put NH brews on your palate!
We hope you come for a visit again soon!
Cheers,
NHB
I love your blog
