NEW RELEASE 10.1.12
New Holland Artisan Spirits announces the introduction of Beer Barrel Bourbon™ to its line of Michigan-made premium spirits. Beer Barrel Bourbon is the result of an innovative technique, aging or “finishing” bourbon in New Holland’s own Dragon’s Milk® beer barrels for 90 days. This process offers a final flavor that is more round, rich and pleasing, a result appreciated by everyone, including whiskey connoisseurs.

ABOUT
Many craft brewers will attest that whiskey barrels make great beer, and our Dragon’s Milk, as stout aged in bourbon barrels, is a delicious example. Beer Barrel Bourbon goes to show that the opposite is also true; beer barrels make remarkable whiskey.
Beer Barrel Bourbon is first aged in new American oak barrels for several years, before a three month beer-y slumber. The beer-barrel aging lends biscuity notes and a smooth malt character to the robust whiskey tones of toffee and caramel.

I will type that five digit code into the Michigan Liquor ordering system until that quantity goes from red to black. Some tasty stuff, maybe a bump in ABV for the next release, I’m always a fan of bottling bourbon at 45-50% alcohol. Keep up the good word, really looking forward to having this on the shelf!
Thanks, Marc. Cheers!
Stopped at a store today and they said when they typed in the 5 digit code it was no longer valid???
Hi, John. Thanks for your comment. The MI code is only 4 digits. If you are in another state, they each have their own codes. My suggestion is to keep asking your local store, we’re continually sending shipments out. You can also check out our online finder for more information: http://newhollandbrew.com/finder near you. Cheers!
Awesome tour and awesome bourbon!! Some of the tastiest and smoothest I’ve had. Keep up the good work guys.
John,
Thanks so much! We’d love to give the feedback to your tour guide, if you let us know what day you went!
Glad to hear you had a good time. Keep an eye out – we’re going to be doing some specialty tours in the future!
Cheers!
Emily
Is there anyway to get the Beer Barrel Bourbon shipped? I live in Cincinnati, OH and there aren’t any distributers close and would love a bottle for a Christmas gift!
Hi Sam,
You can order through one of our distributors – Binny’s in Chicago. They ship to OH and could totally hook you up. Here’s their website!

Rich color, smooth taste, made in Michigan! I’m on my second bottle.
Is there a way I can get this in VA near DC? I’ve called all the local NH stores that carry dragons milk and no one has it. I neeeeed this.
Hi Tom,
Where are you in Virginia? Let me know and I’ll do some sniffing around!
Cheers!
Emily
Can bourbon be legally labelled as such if aged in used barrels? Just interested. Will be looking forward to trying when visiting Holland again this spring.
Dex
Hi Dex,
I just chatted with our Spirits Manager, Rich, who told me the following – That’s correct. Bourbon must be aged in new barrels. Beer Barrel Bourbon is aged for several years in new American oak barrels before “finishing” in spent Dragon’s Milk barrels.
Hope that clears it up a little. If you have more questions – I can put you in touch with Rich, who would be happy to talk more about bourbon (seriously, who WOULDN’T want to talk more about bourbon??!!)
Cheers!

I’d be curious as to your findings about Virginia, Emily. I live in the District of Columbia, and would be willing to trek around to find a bottle.
Hey Nathan!
Hope all is well in DC! I’m guessing Beer Barrel Bourbon will be making a move into your area in the near future and you can keep an eye out for it on our Beer/Spirits Finder:
http://newhollandbrew.com/finder/
BUT UNTIL THEN – you can find it online through Binny’s – Binnys.com
Looks like they ship to District of Columbia!
Hope a bottle finds its way to your home soon!
Cheers!

I’m enjoying this a lot (have a glass on hand right now), I would like to state that I agree with Marc 100%. Having this at cask strength (45-50%) would make the experience that much better, I’d also have no problem dishing out the couple extra bucks for it.
I really hope that my work travels bring me back to the Holland/Zeeland area; the last time I was out there was 2005.
Found this in my local liquor store and had to try it. I am a bit of a bourbon snob and usually drink Bookers or Basil Haydens. Gotta say that I love what you have done here. Very smooth and drinkable with no harshness. I will stop tonight and buy another bottle.
Hi Fred,
Thanks so much for the BBB props! I’ll pass it on to our team! Here’s a little insider info for you – BBB has been selling so well, we may have a slight shortage in next month or two. The barrels are doing their work and we’ll be packaging as soon as we can, but definitely grab that extra bottle now if you can!
Thanks again for reaching out.
Cheers!

I live in the center of KENTUCKY STRAIGHT BOURBON WHISKEY country and take great pride in our local products and their colorful histories. I recommend for all to visit central KY’s Bourbon trail area, for bourbon as well as pioneer religous history. That being said, you guys have created an absolutely phenomenal product. This bourbon needs nothing other than a drop or two of water, this is not necessary though. It has plenty of char to be instantly recognized as bourbon, and the smoothest finish I have ever dicovered. Thanks New Holland, P.S. what happened to Red Tulip? That beer was as outstanding as your bourbon.
Wow, Dan. Thanks so much for your note. We really love BBB, but it’s awesome to hear from the people we’re really making it for (especially someone deep in bourbon country.) Glad to hear it’s getting love.
We still make Red Tulip, although aren’t currently bottling it and instead making small batches for our Pub in Holland and our local Tulip Time festival. Have you tried our Black Tulip? Not a replacement, but it’s a nice tripel and should be on shelves this month.
Thanks again, Dan!
Cheers,
Emily
