Ben Daniels Band (66 E. 8th St. Holland, MI)
Jan 8, 2010 - Jan 9, 2010 - 10pm-1am - Live Music at the Pub
The Ben Daniels Band has been busy since their inception in 2008. They have played shows in music hotbeds such as New York City and Nashville, and have already pressed and released two full-length studio albums. Their music is hard to categorize as they draw on many different styles of music to create their unique sound. They use a lot of blues based form in song construction, but combine elements from jazz, hip-hop, indie, and 60’s rock. The resulting sound is pleasantly familiar, yet unforgettably unique.

The Pantones (66 E. 8th St. Holland, MI)
Jan 22, 2010 - 10pm-1am - Live Music at the Pub
The Pantones were born in the wake of a derelict printshop in mid-Michigan, the first record recorded to magnetic tape stacks of forgotten paper and abandoned inks. Songwriter Matthew Carlson took the color system he’d employed there as the name of his new band and in 2000 he released “Cosmic Americana” a threadbare group of confidential songs that drew heavily on the Byrd’s “Sweetheart of the Rodeo” and R.E.M.’s “Reckoning”. Two years later came “Memory is All” an album that Popmatters called, “nearly flawless, pretty without being boring.
Carlson’s next offering, 2005’s “Sleepless Nights, Silent Mornings,” saw the band name reduced to simply, “The Pantones” and delivered a program more intelligent pop/rock than the Americana on which they’d built a reputation. Releasing the album on their own Phonophore label. The Pantones made all the right moves to promote it, touring the Mid-west, playing more than 100 independently-booked shows in Michigan, garnering college radio airplay at dozens of schools across the nation, and sharing stages from Toronto to St. Louis with Glorytellers, John Stirratt of Wilco, Healthy White Baby, Great Lakes Myth Society and Canada.

The Ragbirds (66 E. 8th St. Holland, MI)
Feb 12, 2010 - 10pm-1am - Live Music at the Pub
Ask The Ragbirds how to describe their hard-to-define Folk Rock and World fusion and they’ll tell you it’s “infectious global groove”. Led by fiery front-woman Erin Zindle, they put on a show that is designed to engage the audience on many levels – to get people thinking, listening and dancing. As the band’s founder and songwriter, Zindle is like a bright excited tour guide through a beautiful foreign world of sights and sounds. Her earthy-sweet voice is the center of the storm of energy around her, the whirlwind of guitarist T.J. Zindle and dynamic bassist Dan Hildebrandt spinning over the ethnic grooves of drummer Randall Moore and percussionist Tim Dziekan. Amidst this blissful, restless energy Zindle skillfully switches between violin, mandolin, banjo, accordion, and percussion in addition to singing lead vocals (all while dancing!)

Michigan Brewers Guild 5th Annual Winter Beer Festival (Fifth Third Ballpark-4500 West River Drive Comstock Park, MI)
Feb 27, 2010 - Noon-5pm - Beer Festival
The 5th Annual Winter Beer Festival will take place Saturday, February 27th, 2010 at the Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, just north of Grand Rapids. The Winter Festival is a unique opportunity to sample some of the best beers in the world, all brewed in Michigan.
More than 35 Michigan microbreweries and brewpubs will participate and there will be more than 200 different beers available to sample. The event is open from Noon to 5:00pm.
Enthusiast Members of the Michigan Brewers Guild will be allowed to enter the Festival an hour early at 11:00am. The Festival will take place in the outfield parking lot at the ballpark this year and breweries will be located within several large tents. The tents, combined with body heat will help take the edge off the temperature, but please recognize that the Festival is an outdoor event and dress accordingly. Hats, mittens, boots and long-johns are recommended to keep you warm. We are planning to have a central bonfire, but only if the weather cooperates with low wind conditions. It would be helpful if everyone could hoist a Michigan beer and do a fair weather dance. We are hoping for good weather for a late February day in Michigan, but the festival will take place snow, rain or shine.
The cost to enter the Festival is $35 in advance and $40 at the gate if tickets are still available. Last year’s Festival sold out in advance and we have allowed for more attendance but advance ticket purchase is suggested. 15 drink tokens are included with a ticket and each token is good for one 3 ounce beer sample. Additional tokens are available for purchase inside the Festival for 50 cents each. Local West Michigan bands will be the featured live entertainment. Food will be available for purchase.
Tickets are available at our pub in downtown Holland or you can follow the link below to the Michigan Brewer's Guild website to purchase tickets on line.
Festival attendees must be 21 years of age or older and have ID to enter. Designated Drivers are encouraged and DD tickets will be available for $5 each.
