Nobody's Darlin' (66 E. 8th St. Holland, MI)

Jul 9, 2010 - 10pm-1am - Live Music at the Pub

Nobody's Darlin' is an all-girl string band based in Grand Rapids, MI. We specialize in Old Timey, Bluegrass, and Gospel. Sometimes we also throw in some classic country tunes just for fun. Lots of songs about Drinkin', Dyin', and Jesus!

The band was started in the summer of 2004 by Sarah Jane, and has since been warming hearts and making people smile.

Watching a performance by Nobody’s Darlin’ conjures up the essence of a simpler time, before electric guitars and pyrotechnics. The sound of Nobody’s Darlin’ strong female voices meld fluidly over acoustic instruments that resonate true string instrument tones.

We love old theaters, new boots, good wine, great conversation, old songs, new friends, long drives in the country, short walks in the city, old movies, new lipstick, nice-fitting jeans, laughter, good food, dogs, cats, festivals of any kind, cold beer, free sandwiches, senior citizens, new babies, gourmet coffee, going barefoot (except Janet), and obviously making music.

Turn offs include; bad guitar cables, warm beer, surly sound guys, cigarette smoke, bananna flavored anything, running out of hairspray, pantyhose that are too tight, getting up to go to work, onstage wardrobe malfunctions, enchilada pie, and bad hair days.

Cos and Cos (66 E. 8th St. Holland, MI)

Jul 10, 2010 - 10pm-1am - Live Music at the Pub

Cos & Cos is a brother combination performing predominately acoustic, classic rock. The group has been in existence for over ten years playing a wide variety of engagements ranging from nightclub appearances and weddings, to class reunions, corporate parties and community events (a list of references is available upon request). This truly versatile act incorporates a set list with a diverse audience in mind. From the “dinner set” styles of Dan Fogelberg and Simon & Garfunkel to the harder edged Bad Company, ZZ Topp, Journey, Kansas and Styx. Cos & Cos make a genuine attempt to cover many of the bases of the rock-n-roll era. This act is here to please both management and clientele, and will readily adapt its song list to accommodate virtually any situation.

In addition to its musical versatility, Cos & Cos pride themselves on being THE BEST SOUNDING two-man band in West Michigan. Attaining this lofty title was, and continues to be no easy task. As you will immediately notice, Cos & Cos travel with more sound equipment than many bands with four or more members. Many fellow musicians have often asked how the band attains “that surround sound” or, have been impressed at the fact that what they are hearing is only coming from two people.

Ethan Keller (66 E. 8th St. Holland, MI)

Jul 16, 2010 - 5-8pm - Live Music at the Pub

Ethan Keller is a singer, songwriter, and son-of-a-preacher-man. Playing a wide spectrum for over a decade, Keller uses folk, rock, & jazz guitar styles, while his soulful, youthful voice and poetic lyrics naturally dive to spiritual depths. Keller may employ Milwaukee’s living musicals legends for a combo, or a loop machine for a solo gig, but every show is original and fresh.

Ethan Keller’s full-length 2006 debut, “Face Light”, garnered critical praise, and 2008’s “One Way” EP, is being added to college and internet radio across the country. Having has sold over 10,000 records, and played in 35 states, Ethan relentlessly perseveres; always performing recording, and creating what a listener recently called, “music with a purpose.”

With their current line-up formed in early 2006, Soul Patch is a Traverse City, MI based band with music as versatile as its members. Join us for their debut performance here at the pub! Together we hold a masters in groove. Individually we infuse styles from several backgrounds including, world beat, jazz, reggae, bluegrass, funk, surf, rockabilly, ska, blues, and straight up rock n’ roll. They never write a set list but are always prepared to feel their audience and bring them something they can move to.

Soul Patch shows are constantly taking on a new form that is inspired on the spot by the border-less space between the band and the listeners. Playing songs with purpose, yet not afraid to improvise. Soul Patch plays covers from all over the musical world, Motown to modern and everything in between, always making them our own for a fresh unique delivery. Their original music spans three decades and can only be described as eclectic, taking ideas from any one of the three songwriters in the band and plugging them into the musical vessel that is Soul Patch. The output is a sweet ride of Organic Grooves for your mind and feet. Look for them all around the great state of MICHIGAN OR where ever you see the name SOUL PATCH!!!

Glean Infusion (66 E. 8th St. Holland, MI)

Aug 21, 2010 - 10pm-1am - Live Music at the Pub

Grand Rapids-based jam/fusion band, Glean Infusion was formed in 2007 as a collective musical experience intended to encompass and celebrate the diversity of the band member's influences. The high-energy collective truly embodies what it means to be a "band", finding risk taking, improvising and spontaneous communication to be the keystones of their original, raw sound.

Band members, Adam Balcer (guitar, vocals), Paul Geoghan (bass, vocals), Dan Robinson (drums, percussion), Steve Wheeler (percussion) and Jason Wheeler (mandolin, vocals) have erupted on the regional music scene in a short time and have since performed alongside national acts such as Karl Denson, Ekoostik Hookah, RAQ, Hal Ketchum and many more. Glean Infusion thoughtfully uses music as a means to grow, enhance and celebrate community, art and life.

Rootstand (66 E. 8th St. Holland, MI)

Aug 28, 2010 - 10pm-1am - Live Music at the Pub

Rootstand successfully marries the sounds of traditional forms of Roots musics, like Irish reels, and old world polkas, Caribbean ska to American blues and bluegrass to the cutting edge sounds of experimental blues and groove, urban hip-hop, dancehall reggae, and electronica. Our music is very diverse, yet completely logical: Ska and Polka, bluegrass and reggae, hip-hop and country blues, dancehall and Irish reels. What we do is not a token conglomeration of popular forms, it is altogether something new, a new sound, built upon the foundations of traditional music but never intending to replicate it.

Rootstand had the opportunity to jam with a host of great musicians in the past couple years, including John Sinclair, Donna the Buffalo, Lotus, The Brothers Past, Sam Bush, George Clinton and the 420 Funk Mob, Victor Wooten, The Zen Tricksters, Melvin Seals and Rob Wasserman, Tony Furtado, Vince Welnick Band, Mr. Blotto, Derek Trucks Band, Benevento and Russo Duo, Railroad Earth, Jorma Kaukonen and Hot Tuna, Ekoostik Hookah, Tim O'Brian, Chris Smither, Tony Rice and Peter Rowan, Jerry Garcia Band, Henry Butler, Mamadou Diabate, Cornmeal, Grada, Jazz is Dead and seriously many more. We are honored to have shared the stage with these, and all our brother and sister musicians.
