Calendar of Events

The 5th Annual Winter Beer Festival will take place Saturday, February 27th, 2010 at the Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park, just north of Grand Rapids. The Winter Festival is a unique opportunity to sample some of the best beers in the world, all brewed in Michigan.

More than 35 Michigan microbreweries and brewpubs will participate and there will be more than 200 different beers available to sample. The event is open from Noon to 5:00pm.

Enthusiast Members of the Michigan Brewers Guild will be allowed to enter the Festival an hour early at 11:00am. The Festival will take place in the outfield parking lot at the ballpark this year and breweries will be located within several large tents. The tents, combined with body heat will help take the edge off the temperature, but please recognize that the Festival is an outdoor event and dress accordingly. Hats, mittens, boots and long-johns are recommended to keep you warm. We are planning to have a central bonfire, but only if the weather cooperates with low wind conditions. It would be helpful if everyone could hoist a Michigan beer and do a fair weather dance. We are hoping for good weather for a late February day in Michigan, but the festival will take place snow, rain or shine.

The cost to enter the Festival is $35 in advance and $40 at the gate if tickets are still available. Last year’s Festival sold out in advance and we have allowed for more attendance but advance ticket purchase is suggested. 15 drink tokens are included with a ticket and each token is good for one 3 ounce beer sample. Additional tokens are available for purchase inside the Festival for 50 cents each. Local West Michigan bands will be the featured live entertainment. Food will be available for purchase.

Festival attendees must be 21 years of age or older and have ID to enter. Designated Drivers are encouraged and DD tickets will be available for $5 each.

New Holland will be part of a featured pairing presentation during the session break at Friendfest 2010.
Beer & Chocolate Pairings featuring the chocolates of Gail Ambrosius and the beers of New Holland Brewing Company. Tickets now half-price for the remainder of the week!
New Holland Brewing Company will also be participating in the Beer & Wine portion of Friendfest.

2nd Course: Spicy Kobe Beef Slider Asian Slaw and Tonkatsu sauce paired with New Holland's Mad Hatter IPA.

3rd Course: Quail Mole Wild Mushroom Farrotto and Swiss chard paired with New Holland's New Holland Night Tripper Imperial Stout.

4th Course: Smoked Beef Short Ribs, three Cheese Mac- n Cheese and Bourbon Vanilla BBQ sauce paired with New Holland's Dragon’s Milk Oak Aged Dark Ale.

Dessert Course: Pear-Almond Financiere Caramel Ice Cream and Ginger Sabayon paired with New Holland's Pilgrim’s Dole Wheat Wine.

FUNKTION, West Michigan’s premier funk band, has spent the last year performing their own brand of funky music to audiences around the state. FUNKTION brings back the classic funk and soul sounds of the 1960s and 70s, while intertwining some of the more contemporary musical elements of rock, R&B, and hip-hop. Each member of this Kalamazoo based sextet brings a diverse perspective to the music and stage. Their backgrounds range from formally trained to self taught in countless styles: bebop, R&B, bluegrass, rock, jazz fusion, funk (of course), etc. FUNKTION’s musical prowess is matched only by the infectious energy of their live show. A type of energy that is so contagious that even the most self-conscious guy in the room is sure to find his way to the dance floor. Touring and performing live across the country, Mike has shared the stage with members from The Doobie Brothers, Greensky Bluegrass, Melvin Seals and Umphrey’s Magee. With over 64 shows played between June and August of 2009, Struwin’s work ethic, paired with his passion and love for music makes this artists’ success inevitable. Incorporating myriad genres, including Alt-country/Americana/Roots/Rock/Memphis Soul and even Reggae, this Michigan born artist has forged a truly unique style all his own. With seven self-produced all original CD’s under his belt, Struwin proves to be a gifted and prolific songwriter. His music has received national acclaim, with soundtrack placement in two independent features.
