2005 Black Tulip
Belgian Trippel - 12 oz. bottle
18 ° P, 8.4% a.b.v.
A refreshing light, golden yellow Belgian Trippel from 2005. Slightly hazy near the end of the bottle. More mellow than current Black Tulip, but still packed with fruity flavors. Not as sweet as Black Tulip 2006. Very sweet candylike body with a slightly sour, citrusy edge. Hints of banana, spicy clove and vanilla hang on the palate as it finishes slightly dry. Some oxidation has mellowed out the sharper notes making this selection very drinkable.

2006 Black Tulip
Belgian Trippel - 22 oz. bottle
18.5 ° P, 7.9 % a.b.v.
Golden straw in color with a slight haze at the bottom of the bottle. Very rich candylike body, like dark caramelized sugar. Doesn’t quite have the refreshing sour tinge that the 2005 selection offers. This one has a more malty breadlike base with a slightly bitter, dry finish. Bitterness comes on strong at the end, but it is not overpowering. A strong floral character dominates in the nose and flavor throughout along with hints of banana and clove. The yeast profile has mellowed out due to aging. Nice balance and very drinkable.
