New Holland installs 50 Barrel Brewhouse at Production Brewery - 01/23/2008
New Holland Brewing Company is in the process of doubling the size of their brewhouse, the 3-vessel system that makes their beer. In their 11th year, New Holland has operated their orginal 25 barrel, Sprinkman brewhouse since the company’s inception in 1997.
Reporting more than 40% growth in 2007, the brewery shipped over 7600 barrels of beer for the year; the equivalent of 105,000 cases. A barrel is a measuring term equal to 31 gallons. Dramatic growth such as this prompted the brewery to seize an opportunity to purchase a 50 barrel Huppman brewhouse, from a centuries-old German Brewery, “Brauerie Bahr” that ceased production efforts in 2005.
Huppman, is a premier manufacturer and engineer of brewing equipment
New Holland’s install and de-commisioning of their original brewhouse will be overseen by Partner and Brewmaster, John Haggerty, beginning January 21st. From last-brew to first brew, the project should take less than two weeks.
Besides increasing capacity, the new brewhouse, with copper domes and stainless dish-bottoms will improve grain-efficiencies, thus reducing energy-waste by up to 10%. It will contribute to improved consistency and serve as a much needed tool for the company’s forecast of 10,000 barrels in 2008.
“This historic brewhouse will contribute greatly to the quality and integrity of New Holland’s beers” said brewery and Founder and President, Brett VanderKamp. “It’s an incredible opportunity that is a cornerstone for the years ahead.”
Balancing consistency & artistry is the brewery’s goal as identified in their slogan, “Art in Fermented Form.

Special Anniversary Release
The brewery is also releasing a celebratory, limited edition beer named Moxie. It is a sour-ale aged over one year in oak barrels. It is available at the pub in cork-finished 750 ml bottles.
In 2006, New Holland Brewing Company brewed and shipped just over 5,500 barrels of beer throughout nine states, making it the second largest brewery in the State of Michigan (a barrel is equal to 31 gallons). The company expects to surpass the 7,000 barrel mark in 2007, while opening only a few of the new markets that are asking to sell their beer.
New Holland Brewing is proud to employ more than 50 people while championing the prideful pursuit of making and selling craft beer. The company strives to continue to develop their interpretation of "Art in Fermented Form" by offering more than 12 beers throughout the year. Their most well-known brands, such as Mad Hatter India Pale Ale, The Poet Oatmeal Stout and Dragon's Milk - Barrel Aged Ale, have cleared the path for new offerings such as Lucid, a kolsch-style beer and Existential Ale, an uncategorized hop experience.

New Holland Opens New Production Brewery - 10/20/2006
New Holland completed the transition into a new 23,000 square foot brewing facility.
Continued growth and the strong market demand for the company’s beers, led by flagship Mad
Hatter, an India Pale Ale, brought on the move from New Holland’s original location.
The company acquired the new location, a former cabinet-maker’s shop on the north side of
Holland, in June 2006. The 23,000 square foot building has been retro-fitted with new sloped
floors with drains, temperature controlled fermentation and maturation cellars and a 3,000 square foot refrigerated warehouse space.
In conjunction with the move to the new location, the company has upgraded its bottling
equipment. New Holland has acquired a bottling line from a larger regional brewer that is larger,
faster and more efficiently handles packaging materials than the company’s prior line. The new
line, capable of 350 bottles per minute, is anchored by its Crown Cork and Seal, 60-head Semco filler. It also includes several new pieces of equipment that load bulk glass, erect and stuff sixpacks, as well as construct and seal cases. First put to work in the early 1960s, the historic line’s previous homes include Latrobe Brewing Company, in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, Sierra Nevada Brewing in Chico, California and, most recently, Summit Brewing in St. Paul, Minnesota.
New Holland is on track to ship approximately 6,000 barrels of beer in 2006, making them the
second largest brewer in Michigan. With the new facility and improved packaging capabilities,
New Holland’s current annual capacity is estimated at 10,000 barrels. The new location has
room for additional fermenters that could increase its capacity to approximately 30,000 barrels.

Beer from the new brewery will begin to ship in late October, which coincides with a packaging
makeover for the labels and cases of all New Holland beers. Tours of the new facility will be
available by appointment only until spring of 2007 when the company plans to offer tours and
beer-tastings to the public on Saturday afternoons.
Brewing “Art in Fermented Form” since 1997, New Holland Brewing operates a craft brewery, a
restaurant and pub, as well as a micro distillery in Holland, Michigan. New Holland beers can be found throughout Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Kentucky,
Pennsylvania and South Carolina.
The company also produces New Holland Artisan Spirits.
New Holland Brewing Company has received numerous honors, including medals from the
World Cup of Beer, Great American Beer Festival, the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild’s Festival of
Barrel-Aged Beer, United States Beer Tasting Championships and World Expo of Beer.
World Beer Cup 2006 - The Poet lands a silver medal - 04/20/2006
New Holland Brewing honored in worldwide beer competition
(April 20, 2006 – HOLLAND, MICHIGAN) New Holland Brewing Company was recently recognized as a silver medalist by the Brewers Association (BA) World Beer Cup® 2006, a global beer competition that recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced in the world today.
New Holland was awarded the silver in the Oatmeal Stout beer style category for its Poet Stout. The beer is oatmeal stout with rich, smooth malt character enveloped in tones of roast and chocolate.
“We’ve been falling in love with the Poet, and it looks like the judges at the World Beer Cup did, too,” said Fred Bueltmann, vice president at New Holland Brewing Company. “The World Beer Cup is considered to be the most prestigious and credible beer competition in the world, so we are honored by their recognition and praise.”
The competition is the world’s largest and most diverse international beer competition for commercial breweries with 2,221 entries from 540 breweries in 56 countries competing in 85 beer style categories. Winners were selected by an international panel of 109 judges. World Beer Cup 2006 saw a 42 percent growth in entries, 37 percent growth in breweries and 40 percent growth in the number of countries represented from the 2004 competition.
“The World Beer Cup has become the global stage by which brewers world-wide showcase the quality craftsmanship, flavor and diversity of their beers and in so doing highlight their own achievements and the enduring culture of beer,” stated Charlie Papazian, founder of the World Beer Cup and president of the Brewers Association. “The explosion in competition entries only demonstrates the excitement and passion for beer among brewers and the values appreciated by beer drinkers.”
New Holland will celebrate the honor with a hanging of the award and recognition of the brewers at the company’s downtown Holland pub on Wednesday, April 26 at 5:00 pm. Samples of the award winning beer will be available at that time for a celebratory toast. The public is invited to attend. The company will also unveil a new corporate logo at the event.

New Holland begins Distilling - 03/30/2005
New Holland Brewing Company excitedly announces the launch of New Holland Artisan Spirits, the brewery’s line of, spirits produced in the company’s new micro distillery. A soft-rollout begins March 31, with Duchess Brandies and Jumpin’ Juniper being served inside their pub in downtown Holland . The brewery is planning a kick-off celebration in early summer. New Holland is one of 66 companies operating a pot-still in the United States .
The craft of distilling has many similarities to brewing. It starts with a primary fermentation with either grain or fruit. This “low-wine” is then distilled, or reduced to a liquid that is mostly alcohol. The art is in keeping the purest spirit that maintains the smooth and pleasing body of its ingredients. This spirit is then diluted back to the desired proof.
New Holland Brewing Company’s distillery license allows the company to distill spirits from fruit, as well as grain. The license also allows them to sell their spirits that are classified as brandy by the glass in their pub. Brandy is distilled from fruit, and can have many more interpretations than the brandy with which most people are familiar.
New Holland is introducing Duchess brandy, a fruit-based spirit with a similar taste to vodka. The Duchess line of brandies also includes several fruit-infused and flavored variations, including lemon, orange, raspberry, vanilla and pepper.
Also part of the inaugural line-up is Jumpin’ Juniper, a brandy infused with juniper, the berry used in traditional gins.
“We’re excited to begin the exploration, which is a natural continuation of the brewing process.” stated Brett VanderKamp, company co-founder and president. Rums and whiskies are in the company’s future, although they require considerable aging periods. Additionally, current state law limits excludes grain-based spirits from what the company can serve by the glass.
Michigan is fertile ground for vintners, brewers and distillers. Ranked sixth nationally for its number of breweries, Michigan ’s wine-makers began the local micro-distilling movement. Since then, some breweries have joined the effort. Michigan ’s 11 licensed pot-stills make it the second ranked micro-distilling state in the country.

World Beer Cup 2004 - Mad Hatter wins Gold! - 04/23/2004
New Holland Brewing Company recently claimed a gold medal in the Association of Brewers (AOB) World Beer Cup® 2004, a global beer competition that evaluates beers from around the world and recognizes the most outstanding beers being produced in the world today.
New Holland was awarded a gold in the American-Style Strong Pale Ale beer style category for its Mad Hatter Ale. The beer is a heavily hopped ale deriving an assertive hop bitterness and flavor from a process known as dry hopping. The result is a very spicy/floral aromatic character that gives it its unique taste and distinguishes it from all other beers.
“Most people take for granted that their home town brewery is making world class beer. This award is one of the highest forms of praise by the most highly trained beer judges in the world,” states Jason Spaulding, New Holland’s national sales director and co-owner. World Beer Cup 2004 winners were selected by an international panel of 93 beer judges from an impressive field of 1,594 entries received from 392 breweries in 40 countries. More than 3,800 breweries in 100 countries were invited to compete. Visit www.beertown.org for World Beer Cup 2004 information.
“With such a diverse list of entrants and winners, we are confident in saying that the World Beer Cup is truly an international competition that is both capable and skillful at recognizing global beer excellence,” states Nancy Johnson, director of the competition. “Without a doubt, a World Beer Cup winner can truly boast that it is one of the best beers in the world.”
New Holland will celebrate the honor with a hanging of the award and recognition of the brewers at the company’s downtown Holland pub on Tuesday, May 4 at 7:00 pm. A special cask version of the award winning beer will be available that night only for those who attend the celebration. The public is invited to attend.
