About
My journey at New Holland started in October of 2001 as a part of the kitchen. I remember the talking with the "Cheetah" one night in the old Fairbanks building about possibly getting an interview. Fate willed me into a position scrubbing toilets and washing dishes. From there I learned how to make the perfect pesto pizza from Sir Charles, the original kitchen manager. I still can remember cooking pesto pizzas with D. White and him forgetting the tomatoes.

I've worked in the brewery, mashing in, erecting case boxes (before we had machinery), waiting tables, and washing kegs. I even had the honor of smashing plaster off the walls of 8th St. with a good friend Steve-O.

These days I spend my time working the Michigan and Ohio markets, concentrating on spreading the good will and name of New Holland to on- and off-premise retailers via our distribution network. I work with nine solid wholesalers and their sales teams, working together to bring beer to the public. I also teach Beer 101 courses to a number of different local hospitality programs at GVSU, Ferris State and Baker College. Along with my beer duties, I also do promotions, tastings, events and industry related beer events.

My most memorable event at New Holland must be when I did my first boot after a bottle run. I do remember it was early April at Fairbanks Ave., and we had a late snow. All of the Fraternal Society guys were in helping us. We had a terrible bottle run but it was the first batch of Zoomer. It was somewhat common in those days to do a few boots after the run, and we decided to fill the boot with Zoomer and drink the beer. From what I remember I spilled all over the place because I forgot about the beer "tidal wave" from the bottom of the boot! Good thing I rode my bike to work that day!

My favorite beer is Mad Hatter. Although it is my staple, I do tinker with Poet and Red Tulip as of late. If I'm drinking imports, I like Unibroue; if it's a Michigan beer I prefer Dark Horse. When I'm traveling I like to try other Michigan beer while popping in our fellow Michigan Brewers Guild Members' breweries.

I recently started home brewing and making wine. I must say it's a great hobby and I'll let you know how it comes out. If you're really lucky perhaps we'll meet and we can crack open a bottle!

We hope to see you at a New Holland event sometime at the pub, or out at your local watering hole. Remember to please help us out by asking for your favorite New Holland Brew when you're out and about at your local bar, restaurant or party store!
