About
Tell us about yourself.
I'm originally from Detroit, but have spent almost the last ten years in the Rocky Mountains of Idaho. There I studied geology at Idaho State University for the first few years before turning up a different path to a higher road. Not that I didn't enjoy learning about geology...I still do, but I had so many interests I felt I needed to use more of my brain. So I studied flyfishing, backpacking, skiing, socializing, music and BEER. During this time I met many lifelong friends including my wife, Amy. We spent a couple more years in Idaho exploring the mountains with friends before moving to Portland,OR. There I continued my studies mostly of beer and flyfishing. I think I tasted every IPA in the Northwest, well maybe. Portland is where I really grew an appreciation for the culture and diversity of good beer. After a year Amy and I moved back to our friends in Idaho where a good friend was brewing for a small family-owned brewpub. He helped me get a job as bartender and his assistant brewer. As the business grew up, I grew with it and I've spent the last few years at that brewpub as brewer/pub manager. Amy and I had a great time and loved our life in Idaho, but we felt it was time to get back to living in Michigan with our family and friends here. I was very lucky to find that New Holland was hiring a brewer at the same time I was relocating. I was even more fortunate that they thought I was a good fit. I've been on the brew crew at the production facility since Sept 07' and now at the pub since March 08'.
What's your favorite beer?
It depends on my mood and of course, my motives. I like sampling many different styles of beer(not always at the same time), but I also like trying the same style from many different breweries. I'm generally impressed with strong, unique flavors whether the beer is light or dark in appearance.
However, no matter where I am in beerland, I never seem to be too far from a Mad Hatter!
Favorite quote?
•I never let schooling interfere with my education.
Mark Twain
•I owe it all to little chocolate donuts.
John Belushi
What do you like about your role at New Holland?
I like the opportunity to creatively explore the vast world of flavors that brewing beer has to offer. The Craft Brewing Industry has experienced a lot of growth over the last few years, its a fun time for everyone involved! I hope I'll contribute as much as I'm learning now, just glad to be a part of it!
If I could do anything, I'd ...
Transplant all of my Michigan family, friends and job to live in southeast Idaho...we'd have great fun!
